FOR UTAH MEDICAL PROVIDERS

Yes. Cannabis is legal in Utah. You're already qualified to recommend it.

Utah's recommending-provider pathway requires no new license and no changes to your practice. Here's exactly how it works.

A Clinical Conversation

Cannabis is a clinical recommendation – documented and monitored like any other treatment.

Utah legalized medical cannabis in 2018. Today, more than 112,000 Utahns hold a medical cannabis card, and the number of providers willing to have this conversation hasn't kept pace with patient demand. Utah built a low-friction pathway for this: no new license, no added liability exposure, no learning curve beyond a short course. Providers can start referring patients immediately.

What is a medical cannabis certification?

A medical cannabis certification is an electronic or paper record confirming that a patient qualifies to use medical cannabis in Utah. Only the patient's recommending medical provider (RMP) can submit one.

Certifications can be submitted through the electronic verification system (EVS) or sent directly to Dragonfly Wellness by encrypted email, or have the patient deliver it in person.

If the patient is under 21 or does not have a qualifying medical condition, the RMP must also submit a petition to the Compassionate Use Board (CUB).

Provider Relations

From LMP to RMP

Limited Medical Providers (LMPs) are considered any medical provider who has not completed the RMP(Registered Medical Provider) Certification Course. As a medical provider you are automatically qualified to refer up to 15 patients to the Utah medical cannabis program. Beyond that, you will be required to complete the short RMP certification course to refer more patients. This state mandated course allows you to refer many more patients to the program and registers you with Utah’s DHHS and EVS programs.
